;Born in Ottawa, 1935, Richard Gorman is an abstract expressionist who was influenced by Toronto’s Painters Eleven and the abstract movement in New York. Gorman studied at the Ontario College of Art under Jock MacDonald, graduating in 1958. Gorman also made sculptures, experimented with film, and tried printmaking. From 1971 to 1989 he taught he taught painting and drawing at the Ottawa School of Art and the University of Ottawa. In 1986, Gorman created a mural for the new Ottawa Provincial Court House. Gorman now lives in Toronto.
