The early 1970s marked the beginning of Flack’s mature body of work, composed primarily of still lifes. She turned to photographs from her own family albums and to images of public figures for inspiration. She applied photo-realism to her Vanitas series, which were still life paintings of items ranging from flowers to jewellery to photographs of concentration camp prisoners. These photographs were used as the basis of the Vanitas series of paintings.
