From Whence I Came

X.207

One of Carolyn Ritchie-Bedford’s favourite muses was
Angela, a girl from her neighbourhood in Cape Breton who
was always keen to model for the artist. Ritchie-Bedford’s
depiction of Angela in From Whence I Came visually
explores the idea of a sense of belonging. About the work,
the artist explains, “she’ll always be home” near the ocean,
and the familiar land of Cape Breton that lives inside of her.
