Taiya Barss was born in Massachusetts, in 1943. She attended Antioch College, Ohio, and moved on to graduate from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts back in Boston, Massachusetts. Barss immigrated to Canada in 1973, but wasn’t fully a citizen until 1987. She lived in Cape Breton for many years before moving to Halifax in 1998. Barss’s works reside in collections across Canada, the United States, Brazil, and throughout Europe.
