Child and Flowers
X.097.01
MacLeod drew her subject matter from her immediate
surroundings and personal experiences. In general she
painted and drew her world as she found it, while
sometimes layering in the political and intellectual concerns
of her circle and acquaintance. Her own circumstances and
opportunities often determined her compositions – her child
and her daughter’s friends as subjects when she was home.
As a result, her oeuvre constitutes a portrait of a person, a
period, and an environment.
