Known as Cape Breton’s “First Lady,” Theresa “Ann Terry”
MacLellan (1924-1985) was a famous radio and television
personality. She was raised in Beaver Cove, Cape Breton.
She studied speech training and was involved with drama
groups, while studying at Holy Angels High School. She
received her B.A. in English and Speech at St. Francis
Xavier University and began her broadcasting career at
CJFX with Terry Tales. She moved on to CBC as a radio
reporter where she adapted the name “Ann Terry.” In 1954
she became the host for CJCB’s Women’s Morning
Program. She left her career with CJCB in 1972 for a
position as Director of Tourism with the Cape Breton
Development Corporation. She saw tourism as sharing in
the progress of Cape Breton and her many projects
exemplified this ideology. Her work culminated in her
promotion to Director of Corporate Affairs in 1980, a position
she held until her death in 1985.
