Big Brook, 1972

2015.01.03

This portrait is of Brian Peters, who came from Winnipeg and lived in a commune on the Big Brook Road, near Northeast Margaree. In this picture he is in front of the building that the commune briefly occupied. He was first married to Judith Smith, and later married Maria Coady, with whom he had three children, Moira, Coady, and Brendan. He was an activist for various environmental and school-related causes, and is a woodworker, continuing to live in Big Brook with Maria. He has written about his experiences as a back-to-the-lander as part of a recently completed Master’s degree at St. FX University.
